The whistles are still ultrasonic, but there's only two frequencies used. They're still susceptible to outside sounds. I remember one service call I made and the complaint was the set would turn itself on and off at random times during the day, sometimes several times an hour. I ran out of ideas and brought the set to the shop where it played for days without failure, but as soon as we took it back it was back to it's same old tricks. The problem turned out to be an electric clock with a fake pendulum on the wall above the set. When the pendulum went across in one direction it would squeak, and when the squeak hit the right frequency, kerchunk the remote stepped down the volume. This continued till it turned off the set, then in a little while it was back on. Oil the clock to fix the TV....The customer thought I was physic.....
