Sony KV-20XBR service manual wanted

I found one of these recently and the picture is nice, tested it with my B&K 470 and it’s got good life left on the CRT. The side mounted speakers are neat, too. I’m putting together a cable so I can connect my Atari Jaguar to the RGB input.

Looks like this TV still has manual adjustments (no service menu/internal memory). Does anyone have a copy of the service manual? It did have this handy diagram inside the case, but I like having the full service manual as a reference.

IIRC the KV25XBR is the same basic chassis. Set up should be the same.
Not much to it if you are using the ( assumed) TTL input. Almost all problems
with these were cold joints around the IF's on one of the side boards.

NOT on this set but a warning for all. One XBR set has an exploding back !
It was a little newer & had an optional pedestal base with foot controls.
Also an add on tuner. First sign of troubles is when you move the set.
You hear plastic rolling around inside. Next is pulling the back screws
you see half of them broken out. Next you pull the back off and it explodes
into pieces & lands on the floor.
Trouble is the wrong plastic and the fact that two VERY heavy speakers were
mounted to the back. The second you pulled the back the weight of the
speakers tore it apart. We had two of then do this then we got wise. A few
others showed up & we explained the situation to the customer. We politely
refused to work on them. Too bad as the problem on all was a cold joint
on the PS board, a true gravy job !

Electronizer, take care of those speakers. They're difficult to fix, since there appear to be no replacement foam surrounds available, last time I checked.

Chip Chester, your comment spurred me to inspect the speakers more carefully. Although the woofers on both speakers look fine, the surrounds are torn for both tweeters. I hope it’s not the kind of foam they used everywhere in the 80s that has now disintegrated and crumbles away at the slightest touch. Anyone had any luck repairing these things? Guess I’ll take them off and drive a different pair of speakers. Too bad, they have that top-end Sony “cool” factor.

Zeno I can only imagine the shock and surprise that first tech must have experienced when the case shattered. Followed I’m sure by, “what do we tell the customer?” The case on my 20” model has metal reinforcement where the speakers attach.

Well, keep them, because there may be options you discover later. In the interim, consider some shielded Minimum 7-size units. (Most of them are not shielded.)

Update

The cable is finished and it's a success!

The image from the Jaguar looks amazing in all its scan line glory:

I used an IDC connector and crimp on D-sub connectors to get things done quickly; next steps will be to solder on audio connectors.
