RCA 621TS on eBay

Someone is selling an unrestored 621TS on eBay. Some veneer damage, no back, and the cord's been cut off; but it looks like it would respond well to a slow start with a fused and metered Variac followed by the usual troubleshooting and preventive work. High bid is already beyond my budget, so I'll post the link here for someone else. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...287118090&rd=1

I'm currently the high bidder on this set , don't know if it will stay that way but I had to give it a shot.

Eric: Was reasonably sure it was one of us here who had bid that high on a set that obviously needed work. Had to make sure it was headed for a good home, though. You never know what ideas some filthy-rich fool might dream up. I'd hate to hear of an authentic 621 being retrofitted with a modern color chassis. I'd love to borrow a cabinet to take some exact measurements to verify the accuracy of my preliminary sketch eventually. I have a feeling I did a reasonably good job with photos of that empty cabinet that Kevin W. bought and its overall dimensions, though. Once I find a cabinet maker who can build a scale model suitable to fit a 5" CRT (B/W or color), I hope to release a replica that's clearly specified as such to curb some hobbyists' interest in gutting real antiques. Preliminary quotes for having a cabinet custom-built, though, indicate that the cost is high.

Well, I was the high bidder for about an hour, back when it was in the $300 range. I guess that's about as close as I'll come to owning that particular set!

Another one

There is another 621 on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...287929122&rd=1

In pretty bad shape compared to the first one.

I might have given the first one a better run for the money if it had been close enough to pick up, I was getting heartburn thinking of ways to ship it safely
