Admiral 24C16
Yes, I picked up yet another Admiral
I really like the way the front juts out on this model. The cabinet is a little rough with a nice water ring Also the brass plating is virtually gone from the fine tuning knobs. The electronics look pretty good though. The picture tube has lost a lot of dag coating, but tests fine and no burn lines. The speaker has been replaced with a fairly modern looking QUAM. The power supply chassis is still out in the garage. I've got too many projects going on to deal with it right now. I just got my caps for two other Admirals. I hope to fire them up over the next few days. Last edited by bandersen; 05-09-2014 at 03:11 PM. |

Tryin' to corner the market on old Admirals, are you ? (grin) Glad somebody is-I've done my part-I have one of those ubiquitous 1911A1 7" bakelites & a 10" console..

Hey, what can I say? They just keep showing up in my area
I haven't scored a 19A11 yet though. I hit it up with a little Howard's Restor-a-Finish and Feed'n Wax. Looks pretty good, but the top really needs some refinishing. The old finish is worn right through in spots. Last edited by bandersen; 05-09-2014 at 03:11 PM. |

Thanks - got it for $75. I've come across more Admirals and Motorolas in Chicago than all the other brands combined. Maybe because they were based here ?

Bet it was because they were based there.
As it stands, I've got 4 Admirals altogether (5 counting a '78 12" b&w made by Rockwell) and all but one work. |

Here's my tally of vintage sets:
Admiral - 4 (+ parts of 2 others) Motorola - 3 Philco - 2 RCA - 1 Sentinel - 1 (based in Evanston, IL) Emerson - 1 Airline - 1 (also based in Chicago I think) Never even seen a GE or Zenith in person. |
