Width Problem with Capehart Model 320
Hello .. this is my first post here .. I have a Capehart model 320 I have been restoring,, and have pretty much fixed all except a width problem.. the crt has a line on the left side... that is wider when you first turn it on and as it warms up 5-10 min the line gets smaller...but never goes away.. and if you try to adjust it out the picture fades and you loose contrast.. I am not a tv repairman.. but I do have a background of self taught electronics,, 30 some odd years,,
I have been posting my progress on the other site.. under capehart 320..the set has been recapped and all tube double checked.. so where should I look for this type problem... Thanks.. Mike |

I had the same problem with a Hallicrafters set which was almost impossible to narrow down. It turned out (finally!) to be shorted turns in the width coil.

Thanks for replying.. I checked the resistance on the coil and it is as my sams says...
I am using a sub. pix tube in this set and it dosn't use magnetic focus.. and I was told to remove the focus coil.. I don't think they meant me to remove it from the circuit.. but I did .. and now I beleive it changed the B+ .. and may have damaged something,, I had to replace the yoke.. and after replacing it.. I had normal width.. then I heard a popping sound then the line developed on the left side.. any Ideas anyone.. this set is in sams 112-3 Thanks.. Mike |

Last night I turned off the TV in the dark and noticed the H. Out tube was glowing blue inside.. I replaced it with a new one it also glows blue inside.. could this be a symptom of my width problem?
thanks .. Mike |

If it looks like the inside of the glass envelope glowing, that's okay. means that the vacuum is very good inside. Stray electrons hitting the glass, not an issue. Shouldn't be a cause of a width problem.
