2000 Runco CRT projector help needed
I've got a home theatre from 2000, at the centre of which is a Runco 980 CRT projector. It is based on the NEC PG series.
Yesterday, after watching a movie, the projector shut down on its own, and then restarted without issue. Today, it did it after half an hour, and then would not come back on for longer than 10 seconds. After half an hour, it would run for half an hour, then go off. Error code on LED readout says F8, which is apparently the convergence board. Makes sense since convergence has become progressively more difficult to achieve. Disconnected convergence board and am doing a trial to see if projector shuts down again. Obviously picture looks like crap without convergence. Convergence board uses STK modules. Lots crammed into a small chassis, looks like heat and time may be the culprit here. I'm tempted to just order some new STK modules and hope for the best, assuming machine doesn't shut down with convergence board disconnected. Anyone ever work on one of these? Am I going in the right direction here? The CRTs are still going strong, would be a shame to be forced to "upgrade" |
