My first LCD repair job
The neighbor has offered me payment if I can fix his flat panel TV. It's a Samsung LN32A540P2D 32" (widescreen) LCD, manufactured in December 2008. It was purchased new from a Costco a few months after it was built, and he tells me it has always been well cared for, wall mounted, and has never been dropped or impacted, or had anything spilled onto or into it.
Here's the issue: The upper one third of the screen is fine. The lower two thirds, however, are darker than normal and exhibit a strange effect, with off-yellow and tan vertical ghosting lines that seem to interact with whatever is on-screen. The sound (and everything else) acts normal. The set was pretty dusty, but I didn't see anything inside that looked burnt, loose, etc. Ideas?
