Have a question about the usage of this tester. I've gone over the manual and check their site, but can't figure out exactly what they mean when adjusting the individual G2 controls. I've a attached a pic to show the unit (the flash washed out some of the control markings).

In second to last testing setup it says to adjust each G2 control until it moves up "one division" on the scales. I'm assuming that one division is a vertical mark on the face, but which scale should be used? Is a division one of the taller and wider apart lines or is one of the shorter and closer together lines considered a division? In the upper left of the meter face is says to add one division for setting cutoff, but that's just a vague as the manual.

The first division would be "0.05" on the "red yellow green" scale. It's not identified as so, but it's between the "0" and the "0.2".

By the way , I have a question for the more knowledgeable people around here : what would be the the desired strenght of the crt on the tester? Well obviously the higher it is the better, but I suspect that even if the tester says it's "ok" sometime the picture tube ain't that great. For exemple I tested one of my Hitachi crt with my B&K 470, and the red gun tested ok at the upper limit of the yellow erea, but still the red were smearing...so I have to guess it's not "that" good.

That's been my experience, as well and I think the yellow area is designated for testing color CRT gun tracking; however, I consider any tube that test on the yellow portion of the scale when reading emission to be weak (still usable; but, could be better). In some cases, I've had tubes that read in the upper end of the "BAD" range give a watchable picture. Recently, I had a BPC 2003 19" Orion that had a soft; but, still watchable picture. The tube tested in the yellow section of the scale; so, I "cleaned and balanced" the tube and it looked much better after that. When I encounter a weak tube, I usually perform the "clean/balance" function first. Usually, that will be sufficient to bring the tube up. If it's not, I'll move up to the more powerful "rujuvenate" function. I'm of the belief to only use enough power necessary to get the job done. With that said, the rejuvenate function on this tester is still safer than the older "atomic blast" testers.

I'm going to have to test the CRT again. My testing got the emissions in the very upper end of the yellow section. I'll double check it now that I know where the "one division" is on the scale. If it doesn't improve after that, should I use the "clean/balance"?
