MIGHT--be getting one of THESE soon....

I have been working on getting this since last fall....and I found out that it did NOT end up in a packer truck--yet anyway. I found a text from the woman from the beginning of the month saying she still has it--and "my name is on it". But she is VERY hard to get hold of. I left 2 new messages--explaining I had missed he text, since I do not text much--i rather talk on a phone than text, and told her I DO want the set--and to call me. Hopefully--she will

Anyway--it is a Sylvania console, a combo I think from 1971. I THINK--and HOPE--this one has the EO-1 or EO2 chassis, it is the big one in the picture below of the ad. The original pix from her last year--which is NOT accessible anymore--showed the tuner--and it IS one of the push-buutton varactor tuners used on the EO-1. Hopefully--someone here would KNOW--if that big combo in the pix, is an EO-1 or EO-2., an did they use the varactor tuner on any Hybrid sets--or only SS?

I dont KNOW but varactors just came out & any in anything
not top of line is unthinkable. Looks like a great find to me.
Nice straight forward design that can be kept running almost
forever.

Missing out on a combo is a mixed blessing, at least you don't have to find room for it.
I offered an acquaintance $50 for a 1967 RCA CTC28 combo, but being the original owner, he wouldn't give it up for that. I came away feeling relief rather than disappointment.

Well...it WAS at least a 100 mile trip..EACH way to get it..But for an E0-1 chassis set--I was ore than willing.

But then...I have THREE sets to pick from Doug anyway, as it is n ow. A D12 sylvania, (which I had in 1981 and LOST it in a move ), a 25NC38 Zenith(which I last had about 30 years ago)...and a VERY nice Motorola TS-919 set--VERY rare 1967 SS color set !!Modular--like the WID sewts--BUT in a "flat chassis" layout. NEVER thought I would even SEE one--let along GET a WORKING one !!

But today..I picked up a sort of "consiolation prize" for losing that E0-1 set. Not ANYTHING like it....but as modern sets go--semi-worthwile. A C-8 phillips console. I will show pix's and such in another thread., and this was FREE, a block from my bank !!

I had similar experiences getting my Silvertone tv. I called and left a message, days later, no response. Another message, same thing. By about the 5th time and a week later, the guy said he had it and I could look at it that evening at about 5:30-6:00. Waited until 10:00 to be sure, then went to bed disappointed. The next day I called him, he said he was busy yesterday and I could go see it today, and his wife would show it to me. I went, it was in an uppity cookie cutter subdivision, the least place you'd expect to find something "outdated". His wife rolled it out of the garage, and I inspected it. She also made a nice comment, "Hmph. I would have listed it at $200."

I was glad I got it in the end though.

those sets used the d16 hybrid chassis.yhe e-line chassis' were the solid state models.those d16 with the "big tuner" were awesome sets.the next year model with the slide controls were the best set sylvania ever made.the crts were incredible and very fine performers with litlle problems.some lasted 30 years with few repairs.

At least it's not as much of a loss as an E-01, although the D-16 is great. And combos... just my personal taste but I don't care for combo anything beyond an amp with a tuner.

e-01 were ok but the best solid state sets were e45 and e48.those were made simple with an outstanding crt, although they didnt last too long.3 years was the norm.the 25vdmp22,the finest looking crt ever.very good sets except for crts.i like certain combos.there was e-01 combo here in columbus.crt was very good, had a vertical problem.just a line across the center.they beat the cabinet up moving it but stereo components were there and working properly.40.00.i passed on it.

SO then...is the "twice as bright.half as long" pix tube...the reason so FEW of the E40 series Syl sets are to be found today? SYl. ran those tubes at 32KV, after all...

they ran the voltage too high and the crts just didnt last long.that e-o1 that was here ended up being tossed at the dump.i had the owners number and he said other than my interest, nothing.the crt was a 25vdmp22 but the line was bright and all three guns had excellent emissions.looked to have been replaced.there was a screw out of deflection shield and no clip for anode.they beat the cabinet up something awful.no care taken and it would have been very time consuming to try restoration.shame its lost forever
