Mid '50's Crosley "Super-V" 17" B&W TV
This Crosley, model H-17TOMHD, had a dead CRT to start with; but, it rejuvenated OK and stayed up, even at 5 volts. Also, it looks like a heavy object was dropped on the top of the cabinet and, as a result, busted the wood. It's not everyday that a Crosley TV turns up and it looks like this one was made towards the end of Crosley, before the brand turned into Chinese made replica garbage.

It looks pretty basic; but, that's OK. The less circuitry there is means the less I'll have to replace.

nice looking tv, even if you have to do some woodwork. Nice to have a set like that, and its not a floor model. Good for you! -
does it work? is the yoke ok? looks a little flaky -

The yoke cover is falling apart; which, seems to be a problem of all sets of this era.

That Crosley set could have passed for my folks' second TV, which was also a Crosley Super V. Theirs was a blonde console, though. We had it for several years, until my mother decided she wanted an all-channel TV; then the Crosley was relegated to the basement, where it stayed until the early seventies.
That set worked very well all those years, too -- I don't remember my dad ever having to replace tubes in it, and it worked even after we replaced it with a black-plastic cabinet 17" all-channel Silvertone portable in 1965 or so. I remember a greenish spot on the top of the cabinet, caused by a figurine with a green felt base sitting atop the set for years. We never could get rid of it, but if it weren't for that, the cabinet would have been very nice looking. BTW, were crumbling yoke covers really a problem with all 1950s-vintage televisions? I thought the covers were made with thicker plastic (inches thick) in those days, with the newer CRT sets of the '60s through the end of the NTSC era having the flimsy, paper-thin plastic yoke covers that would fall apart if you so much as looked at them funny.

I have the same set parked in my basement...even has the original metal stand. No clue if it works or not...never tried it out.

Good that your CRT came back,. Those 90 degree deflection tubes are pretty tough. I have the big brother of your 17 incher.
Sandy is right, there is not much to these, so its doubly important to make sure what few parts there are - are good. Mine is a crosley 21" floor model H21comuc . I have replaced all but the most hard to reach paper caps, which are in the Hor osc. It makes a nice raster but Horiz is freq off. My yoke looks worse and I was able to pull the whole business out of the cabinet since the chassis and CRT is mounted on a slide-out board. PM me if you need a schematic, l have 1954-56 folders from Crosley. Very good info. BTW, Crosley was made by Avco in Cincinatti. Powel and Lewis Crosley sold the appliance and electronics business right after the war to make cars.
