Anyone have ideas of a good book for repair of old black and white sets for troubleshooting?

Assuming that you are interested in vintage TVs, repair books would mostly be out of print. You probably want to get several, one book wouldn't have all the info you might need. Search ebay, look for ones printed back when the TVs were made. There are some old books that have been put on CD/DVDs.
Probably wouldn't want a text book type since it might be to theoretical.

There used to be a ton of different books. Start at your local
libraries, they always had them & may still.

Best way to learn after you know basic very basic electronics
& how to use a meter is the block diagram. Learn each stage,
what it does & what happens when it dont work right.
After that there are a lot of us here with hundreds of years
experience both pro & hobbyists. Ask questions & learn !

BTW you can use a "how to" book on color tv. They are just
B&W sets with some things added. Besides some day you will
want to do an old color roundie or first generation solid state
color TV..........
