Toshiba Blackstripe. Any History?

I'd never heard about these before I found this for sale online. I immediately fell in love with the design and had to pick one up.

I can't find much information on the Toshiba Blackstripe, save for a few comments from people who remember owning one and commenting that the picture was pretty good. I have to agree, the colors are vibrant and it's a pleasure to watch. I "blackstripe" anything more than a marketing term from Toshiba, or did they actually work out a unique CRT design for their color sets?

I've seen that they original had an (optional?) stand, and found one online to match mine, although I'm not sure if my model accepts it. If not, I'll hold onto it until I can resell to another collector that needs one.

My tuner is a bit flaky. I'm transmitting four stations on channels 9-13, and you have to jiggle the knob back and forth to make it decide what station it's on. I'll plan on giving it a cleaning at some point.

I've seen a few smaller ones for sale. As far as I know "blackstipe" goes back to 74' probably earlier. Looks like in 1969 it was just "Toshiba Color". I can't seem to find much.

Someone on here probably knows a whole lot more.

I believe Black Stripe is just their name for an inline gun CRT with black matrix.

Touting the automatic degausser compared to "sets without it" is a laugh, because all sets had it by this time.

They were a very good set. The only common problem was on older
ones the modules & main PCB was printed on both sides. The
connection between the sides would get cold & you get all sorts of
intermitants. Later they hard wired them & soon redesigned them
with one sided PCB's. They were the first to learn NOT to use
double sides. Everyone that did it regretted it
