Admiral bakelite tv

This was why I was in this forum the other night. I wanted to show you guys this set I picked up a couple weeks ago. A friend found it in the paper.
This set cost me 150 bucks but I think it was well worth it.
The people were so cool, They were even worried about someone turning into a fish tank. When they mentioned it, The guy started laughing his ass off when he saw the look on my face, Then he knew I woulden't do that.
He saved the set from a vary wet basement 20 years ago in his inlaws house.
His wifes dad gave it to her mom in the early fiftys when they got married.
This set has a good amount of water damage but I have seen worse. All the tubes were replaced and the crt at one time. I did a full re cap, replaced 4 resistors, 2 tubes and cleaned the crap out of all the controls and the tuner.
The crt had a short and there were sparks in the neck so I had to use the b-k to blow it out. The speaker coil is rusted to the magnet so I just hooked up a cheezy new one for now so I don't blow out the audio section running it. This set has a ion trap and it is a pain in the neck to align it. I still have more work to do to it but it does work good for a set that is over 50 yo. Still using rabbit ears so the picture is not as good as the dvd. The set that was in this house in the 50s must have looked close to the same way.
btw, Yes, The safety glass is not on the color set next to it. I busted it when I held the heat gun on it to long. I have two crts with bad guns in the shed in the yard so the dampness will help get the glass off, Then I will put one on it. Plus I have to replace two tube sockets on the chassis.
