CRT issues?

That sure is one nifty set. I love all the space aged chotch-kies on the control panel. However it looks like there is chunk of glass broken out of the screen/safety screen along the right side by the channel knob. I wonder how hard it is to find sets/parts in Australia.

I bought a Toyota Diesel engine on eBay in Australia and had it shipped here, so that TV can't be too hard to get shipped

No I ment cost wise. I have no doubt It can be done, I just don't have the dollars to pay for the shipping.

Not that I would have room for the poor thing.....

Hey Sandy, I assume that's your Lincoln in the photo. What year is it? I've got a beater '64 convertible that looks like crap but drives like a dream and I have trouble bringing myself to part with it even though I'll never be able to afford to restore it.

Australian Kriesler TVs

Hello all from South Australia

Yes, Kriesler is (or was) an indigenous brand of electrical equipment. They made very good quality stuff, up until the mid seventies, when they they were taken over and quickly killed by Philips.

I have restored a few 60s Kriesler valve stereos and they were all quite easy as they were basically working fine, just with a bit of hum which is easily fixed by replacing capacitors. Many radios are still around.

I currently have a very large and HEAVY " Multi-sonic TV Theatre" from about 1964 which takes pride of place in the kitchen, and works perfectly. It took a couple of other TVs as donors (picture tube and HV replaced) and are still fairly regularly found in auction houses, one near me which generally has whole households of furniture and has the odd treasure, such as the ebay model this post is about. While it would have cost tons for transport to North America, it probably would have worked after a little time was spent on it by an expert.

I recently found an untouched and totally original TV which has June 1959 on the circuit diagram inside, and am working on at the moment. As it's about as old as me, and the oldest TV I've worked on, the day it has a full picture and sound will be a great day for me!

Please bear in mind that TV in Australia didn't start until 1956 with the Melbourne Olympics, and colour broadcasts began in 1975, so our old TVs aren't going to be as old as yours!

Photos can be posted, if necessary.

Cheers, Alan.

Yes, photos will be required.

A Kriesler? You knew I was gonna have to chime in on this one... Could I get one of those shipped over in the trunk (boot?) of a Valiant Charger R/T?

Sounds like high quality goods too.. Like an Aussie Zenith?

I love Australian stuff. Reminds me of one of those alternate time-line Star-Trek episodes where the British win the Revolutionary War... Very American looking, but not quite.

Well, except that it is PAL and not NTSC, right? And the number and frequency of the channels is different to US broadcast, so I think it might be more than a "little time" and effort to get it to play in the US...like maybe gutting and replacing everything on the chassis and tuner? I wonder if the yoke could be driven at a different scan rate...

PAL is for color. I think people run European sets over here with just some tweaking of the frequency coils. And there's always DVDs.

Horizontal freq is only slightly off - vertical is 50 Hz (vs. 60 for NTSC), this would take the most fiddling, but probably can be reached - may require replacing a few parts if the vertical hold, size, etc don't have enough range.
