Question: Proper care and mounting a 7JP4?
Well Im the proud owner of a working 7JP4 for my restored teletone 202 portable and I want to ask this because I dont want to loose this one. This crt mounts by a strap around the edge of the face and also around the bakelite socket. Both straps have a rubber surround on them. I want this tube to last and I want to add more shock resistance so have any of you guys tried "softer" mounting ideas on your restorations? Like more rubber on the straps or foam? Also the bakelite socket is loose on the neck - whats the best glue to secure this? All the way around or put beads of glue in spots?

What kind of set do you have Alan? I mounted mine with some EPS double sided foam around the neck where the strap is on my Motorola VT-71......the key there is heat resistance. Around the front, that's not a concern.

Well here it is! What do ya think?
This is the teletone Ive been searching for another 7JP4 since it's original one lost its vacuum. I replaced all the hard, dried-out rubber bumpers with new rubber. As you know, these good 7JP4's are getting very hard to come by, so I give all the credit for finding this one to God's Intervention. Alan

Over on the AntiqueRadio.com forum you posted something about maybe trying to fill the mask vertically. The height is just fine as it is. The linearity is what I'd be concerned about. I've never seen an electrostatic set with vertical deflection that distorted. That's not the best that set's capable of.

Exactly,
You are right. That's why I said I might work on the vertical section in the future. The linearity distortion you see is the result of trying to get the raster to fill the screen. When the image is adjusted to not be distorted, the raster has even more gap at the top and bottom.

Try increasing the value of the vertical coupling capacitors to get better linearity and
height.
