one time I bumped one of the tubes (which was on the floor) with my foot and static electricity in my sock made the screen momentarily light up

Nice to know! The tube in my 1984 Philips always glows dim white when i turn off the light in my room before i go to bed. I guess that means that the TV likes to stay in my room...

I would love to see that sock trick!
Hey, maybe at the next TV convention we could have a game of CRT's all on carpet and we wear nylon socks and bump them with our feet! The one that lights up the most CRT's wins the CRT's if he hauls them away.
