Are there any 7-year-old girls collecting TVs???

I saw this on eBay, and it must have been done up this way for somebody's little daughter! Definitely not original, but jee-whiz; to be a little girl in the late 40s with a TV set of her own, if indeed that's what this was for!

Chances are, that the set was painted like that when it was already obsolete and considered "junk". I mean, a set like that, in the 70's. would have been nearly worthless. So it probably got painted cute and stuck in the little girls room then. I can't imagine anyone painting it when it was new, unless they had whole heaps of money.

Despite tha paint job, the chassis looks to be in remarkable shape. It might be worth fixing up...

That could be a cool little set. I like the compact size. The chassis looks easy to work on, and in good shape.

The paint might not be too hard to strip, depending on what type of paint was used, and the condition of the underlying finish.

I'm not gonna bid, though. Too many unfinished projects!

I've seen one of those little Arvins once before at a radio swapfest. I think Sears also sold them under their Silvertone label too. It's more compact than you might think from photos. It has a steel cabinet, so if nothing else it'd be easy to strip-and-repaint. The CRT is a bit odd though; it's an 8" diameter tube with a metal cone, so finding a replacement could be tricky if one was needed.

Metal, eh? That would be easy to strip. And you might be able to tell the original color by looking at the inside.

The original color was probably a faux woodgrain front and a brown metal cabinet. The woodgrain could be faked with contact paper I suppose.

The last one of these, in better shape went for around $400!
Guess they're hard to find in good shape.

The knobs aren't original -2 per side- and yes , the front has a fake mahogany woodgrain pattern. The case on mine was brown. I donated it to the Antique Wireless Association as the CRT had a open filament ( I resoldered the socket and tried to weld the filament with a charged cap and tapping, but to no avail ) and I didn't think I'd ever find one. AWA probably would,or keep it if they didn't already have one. Sell it and make some money,if they did. Everyone wins.
