WOO HOO Sylvania Halolight
I am super excited!
I finally get to pick up a WORKING Sylvania Halolight that I picked up on the 'bay a couple of months ago.  I can't believe it is finally time to get it. Incredibly excited!  Anything special I should know about transporting this set? I have never even seen a Halolight in the flesh. Is the Halolight a neon tube or what? I have no idea. I only know that finding one that works is fairly rare.  Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated! WOO HOO

Well, I don't have a Sylvania Halolight, and I don't remember if I even got close to one, but I do have some experience on transporting large, heavy, vintage televisions from one point to the other. Yours look like to be from the 60's, I am used to transport 50's sets, which are worse to transport. Let me tell you, that I am VERY paranoid, so I do take a lot of precautions when I do such transportations. But, to this day, all the TVs on which I, and NO ONE ELSE was involved on transportation, transported, arrived intact on their destinations. One of those was a big Philco 21 inch console from 1956 which traveled 700 kilometers.
On that Philco I did a lot of crazy stuff. I put three pillows on the back cover, secured with tape. One pillow was over the metalic cup that protects the CRT, the other two were one on the left, the other on the right of the cup. I them put a thin mattress on top of the TV, "envolving it" to the middle, and another mattress on the botton, also "envolving it" to the other half. Those mattresses were secured with ropes. I them bubblewrapped the whole thing. And finally, on top of all that, I envolved it with a cheap packing paper with labels written "glass" and "fragile" . Some people looked at me like I was a lunatic, but the thing arrived at my gate after a long trip without a scratch.

I have this very similar version of your Sylvania Halolight. I think these versions with their protruding CRT housings are the coolest of the Halolights. The halolight is a fluorescent tube (the light is produced by a phosphor coating on the inside of the tube). The set should be relatively rugged and easy to transport. Good luck with it!

In Italy there was a Sylvania Halolight ad with a female pistolero (Calamity Jane?) on the "halolighted" screen.

From what I can recall and going by what I've seen, I now recall that my grandmother owned a floor model from 1957, with a ratcheting VHF slider at the upper right of the screen, having a tiny channel window in the center, and a UHF thumbwheel on the left. Impossible to read the channels; I wonder if a bulb had blown years before. She left it in her apartment when she moved in the early 70's because it didn't work anymore. Nuts!
Tom EDIT: Here's a pic of the basic unit. My grandma's was a full floor model that had a speaker with grille cloth and a lightning bolt "S". The VHF ratchet is at the upper left.

Man I sure regret busting up a 1956 or so Halolight set because my dad was Bitching about filling the basement with TV's. It worked fine for a while and then lost audio and video. Just a raster. I had to keep the working sets I owned so the Sylvania made good firewood.

Yes, i am trilingual: - Italian, - French and - Abruzzese dialect. The TV in OvenMaster's message appears TO have a display similar to a Mivar device (coming soon on this thread!).
