Oh crap, what have I done?!

I picked this up today, after promising myself not to buy old radios!

What the heck is it?

I know, I know... pop it open and look for chassis numbers, etc. Just haven't gotten time yet.

Is it supposed to have a glass cover over the dial?

I would have bought that in a heart beat.. BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love the way they put the "lid" over the tuning eye.. gives it a lot of character.. I would have imagined it would have had a lens over the dial.. but you never know...

OH.. thanks to Targeteye and great info he fed me, I would say that's newer than 38.. that has the newer style eyey tube, I can't remember the number, and too lazy to look, but I have the same tube in my radio, and they started making them in 39.. at least from the way I understand it..

Check out this site.. it's the golddial faces and several are the same as yours.. it's just the part numbers for the faces, but it tells you who made what model and who made what chassis for each...

Somewhere to start...

OH.. I wanted to mention. Check out a product called Howard's Restore-a-finish, and their feed-n-wax...

VERY good quality stuff.. it would really make that case look spectacular. It does not harm the finish. It will not desolve it.

I used it on my radio, and all we could say when I was done was WOW.. back to it's former glory..

Yeah similost, I saw the pics you posted of your cleanup job on that console radio. I better hunt down some of that Howard's stuff.

Tom, I assume it doesn't work, but who knows? The thrift I got it from usually "tests" their electronics before putting them on the shelf. It makes me sick to think of the tube stuff that gets tossed or whatever because it "doesn't work!"

That was a thrift find? DAMN!!!! You mind me asking what you gave for it? If not, I understand...

I got the Howard's from Home Depot.. Used it on a couple other wood things we have around the house.. LOVE IT!!!!

Nice Sears Silvertone! It's missing its bezel and glass lens. But a clock parts supplier might have something to fit.

Redboy, that is one gorgeous radio. Congratulations. If I bought that, I'd display it even if it didn't work.

Good Find Redboy! I love the gold dial silvertones and you've got a really nice one. That is a 1937 set. Table top receivers with eye tubes are not easy to find as they were supposed to be inexpensive sets.

I regret to inform you however that yours if missing some stuff. Yours would have had a dial glass and a bezel that the glass would fit into.

Steve
