Smile Update on my RCA Victor 6T74

Well, alot has happenned since a friend of mine picked up my tv from our friend Polaraman last May....
Been cleaning it, restroing the chassis, working on cabinet, doing repair after repair, etc...
Here is is....

Cabinet. Touch up refinnishing on molding. Re-gilded front emblem.
Totally re cleaned mask, picture tube, glass, case, chassis, found missing screws, cleaned back cover, got a brand new heavey duty cord for it.
Chassis. Re-built.
Found some mechanical shorts, poor connections, bad wires, missing parts.
I'm ready to give it another try.. First two attempts failed.

Pictures will follow:

Looks a lot like the set my dad had as a kid - in the 60's it was made into a bookcase. I recall their cabinet had a slight curve to the front and was slightly cleaner in look, though. Never held onto the cabinet and the guts were long gone.

The curved doors make it sound like it was the 1952 model with something like KCS 66 chassis. Would have had a 17" rect. metal tube. I have one like that that I haven't touched, outside of confirming pix tube, and flyback appear to check good, and spkr. is missing....

Hi Bill
I haven't done much with my 6T72 since the spring. I too have some health issues that have slowed me down a bit. In the spring I started fooling with my Ford Falcon but now it's getting colder it's tv and radio time. Best I remember I had a picture and sound but no sync. Also still need to order those .018 and .047@1kv caps to complete the recapping. I know it's got a few bad resistors in the sweep circuit so I'll have to look at that again. Btw I managed to unscrew one of the tuner osc adj screws, are they a pain to get back in?

Good luck with your sleeping I know how it is being tired all the time. I suffer with cronic lyme disease and a few bad discs...
Terry

ps. I've been dittiling with a little Motorola VT-71 and got it going a few days ago.

pss. I was thinking about your problem. I remember that my set shorted one of the new filter caps out as soon as fired it up for the first time. I'm pretty sure I wired it correctly. I did note that it seems that the power supply runs some of those caps right to the limit like 450v +. My line is about 122v.

You need to install a 25 watt resistor between the first filter, and the rectifier.
Set is supposed to run at 370 volts on rectifier. It's running hot. If you leave it this way, other circuits will break down.
This set was originally designed for 117 volts ac maximum.
Thanks.

Hi Bill
Mine is up and running. Found a small mica in the horiz osc that was leaky (C-148 82pf) Once that was replaced it started working but not enough vertical to fill the screen. Measured voltages everthing looked good so I swapped the audio and vertical output tubes and that fixed it. How's yours coming along?

Tried it again. Now B+ is even lower. Whatever is wrong, it has gotten worse.
I'll have to start disconnecting circuits to find the problem 5U4 was getting most un happy.
