Early B & O Radio

Had a call to come on over and pu a radio that there was no longer room

for. These types of calls can go bad fast or turn out interesting.

So far this one looks interesting. Any one else have one of these?

Man, that's pretty, no wait, VERY special and probably quite rare. I wonder how old it is?

Just brought it home and did a quick search, not to much so far other than
it seems to be the same as a model 44 K.
The top is a large fold down screen edged in brass plate.
I would like to know the age also, my guess mid 1930,s but I have been known
to be wrong before.

I'm thinkin' postwar...Would like to see the tubes, & what kind of plug-end it has. May be 220V, but you could be lucky if it has a voltage selector built in. In any event, a tres kewl radio ! Think this was a GOOD call !

Hear is a pic of the 44k model, perhaps this is the export version?
And yes 1944 so Sandy called it right on.

I wish I COULD teach it. Hell, I wish I could even EXPLAIN it. I have been studying industrial design since I was a kid of 10, 12. You see design trends go thru an era's products-Cars, radios, locomotives, advertising, dresses....Flatter lines vs. more rounded shapes....Expensive handcraftsmanship vs stamped out on a machine...New processes-plastic vs bakelite...Relative prosperity of the era...ALL this stuff figures in.

I don't think I have ever seen a B&O tube radio on sale anywhere. Great
catch.

Should work fine on 60 Hz.

B&O radio - FM?

Does that radio have the North American FM band (88-108 MHz) in addition to SW and AM? Couldn't see any references to American FM on the dial scale.

BTW, I was very surprised when I saw this radio, as I was under the impression that Bang & Olufsen was strictly a high-end European audio manufacturer. Didn't think they would have much to do with stand-alone receivers such as this one.
