Can you tell me what this floorstanding console radio is?
Something my wife found that will be up for sale. Just kind of wondering if it's anything worth looking at, other than she really likes the wood and grillcloth. I'm thinking it's a Philco or maybe RCA? Doesn't seem to say that too loud though if it is either...

Well, after going through 300++ pages of reference pics, etc., nada.
I found a few that had a family resemblance, but not specifically that one. I'm guessing Silvertone, or possibly RCA. Can you get any more info?

That's all I got on it.. I was running through a bunch of pictures too, and that was kinda why I thought maybe RCA, but not really... I could believe Silvertone too... It's supposed to be at an Estate Sale that is starting tomorrow, and they list nothing about it other than antique radio..

I was thinking Silvertone too. If it were an election, we'd know the right answer by simple majority!
EDIT: Take a look at the antique radio grille cloths at www.tubesandmore.com They are often quite diagnositic of manufacturer. There's one patter there that's at least klind of similar; AES says it's Zenith.

I could easily believe it... sure is a small dial face for such a large case.. Seems like something Silvertone would do... Wonder if it sold through a Sears catalog..

This radio sure has a minimal number of knobs. Assuming it has BC and SW bands,
this just leaves POWER-VOLUME, BAND and TUNING. A fairly low-end radio, but still interesting if you like the styling. Good luck. |

Yeah.. it's about the style for my wife.. I still got my Zenith sitting there as a hat and goggle holder in the antique room, and the radio not working just cause it looks cool
I really need to find someone in the area that can get it up and running for me..

I have searched through hundreds of pictures and come up with nothing. Although it may not be high-end, it may be a very unusual brand, therefore it may be worth checking out.
You have my curiousity up! ![]() It does look nice, also.

I thought that cloth looked Zenith too, but the radio itself sure isn't.. or at least appears to not be Zenith..
THe sale started today, and I can't get there until Saturday, so I'm hoping that maybe it still may be there.. but like I really need another floor stander.. I've got two I need to get running first..

Very interesting.
I wonder if it could be a custom job. Maybe a cabinet maker made it to save cost of buying one. The radio face would have to have been used on some model to identify the chassis. If there are no decal letters to identify the controls I would think it was made by a top-level handyman.

Silvertone would be my best guess as well. My grandmother had a 1948 Silvertone radio/phono console with a radio dial very similar to this one, but the dial on hers wasn't nearly as small as the one pictured in this thread (for openers, one could read the tuning scales on her console without a magnifying glass!). However, I have never, in 40+ years around radio and electronics, seen a console radio with a tuning dial that small. I would almost be tempted to guess that the radio chassis isn't very large, either.

For a floor stander, it's also a very simple, not at all ornate cabinet.
