Commemorative TV Stamps

I bought a photo of a Sylvania salesman on eBay. The seller used commemorative Television stamps to mail it. I wasn't aware of these.

Is this a 15GP22 Sylvania?

Neat stamps! The tube does not look like a 15GP22... Check my avatar, the phosphor was deposited on a flat plate and surrounded by a mask inside the envelope. I see no such detail in the cool photo.

I agree it's a black & white set, but wow does it ever bear an uncanny resemblance to Stromberg Carlson's 15" color set!

I think the set is a Silvertone Model 133 (Photofact set 156 Folder 12 (1-52)). This set has a 12LP4 CRT and a Phono and AM/FM radio on a pull-out drawer.

Oh dear, you're right. I magnified the photo and it does say Silvertone. The seller probably isn't as familiar with Silvertone and thought it said Sylvania.

The photo suddenly has less value to me.

The knobs on the set on the cover of the photofact look exactly like the knobs on my '49 Sylvania though. I wonder if Sylvania/Colonial Radio made the set for Sears? The photofact for the Silvertone 163-16, 1952, shows the same knobs also.

I have wondered about that also, my Silvertone 9123 somewhat resembles your avatar. When you mentioned that your Sylvania had an oscillator type HV supply, I quickly pulled out the Photofact for the Silvertone, to see if it also had the "coffee can" HV supply, but it does not. I still think that there may have been some "shared resources" between the two companies.

These stamps were issued in August 2009(!). Never saw 'em at my local P.O.

I did have a Colonial (Sylvania) built Silvertone combo from around that same timeframe. If the crt had been good I would have kept it.

Those stamps didn't seem to stay around long. There was a poster at the PO that tied in with them, featuring a generic newscaster on a generic mid-50s TV. I usually buy whatever oddity they have out but never ended up with any of these.

Would you remember the year and model by any chance?
