Atwater speaker questons?
I have the Atwater-Kent type E-3 speaker, aprox 12 in dia and it has speaker cloth on the front and back, it's the one in my avatar.I also have the Atwater-Kent type E speaker, aprox 15 in dia, looks the same as the E-3 but it does not have cloth on the front. I can't find much info if it is suppose to have grill cloth on the front or not, I see some that do and some that don't. Does the type E , 15 in speaker suppose to have cloth on the front? I got cloth ordered for the small E-3 speaker, as it has a hole in the fabric, so I will be covering both sides of that speaker. I got to take it appart, anything I need to be very carefull with, before I try to push the front cover ring off? Both speakers work. |

I see no one has answered you specifically, so I'll thrown in my observation: from reading some other posts on the web, it appears that many of these speakers were made without grille cloth, and the cloth was added later by owners. I think they look better "with." Whether that's authentic or not....

Does not appear to be much information on the Atwater-Kent radios, the model 40 and the E-3 speaker. I may go with the grill cloth. |

I am pretty sure that models E & E-2 had cloth in the back but never in the front.
E-3 came with cloth in both the front & back. -Steve- |

Does not look like I can cover the front , the outer part of the speaker diaphram is there. I'll have both of them apart, to replace the cloth on the back and that may be fairly tricky to do, I have not found any diagrams on those speakers on how they come appart. It looks like the diaphram is glued to the inside housing or held in there some how???????? Last edited by HiFiCanada; 10-16-2011 at 03:40 AM. |
