Looking for CTC-9 flyback

Hey gents. Well, I'm in a bind. I'm looking for a CTC-9 flyback for my 5th anniversary Boswell. I had a burn- through of one of the primary windings and she died. I've searched for weeks with no luck. Even Moyers seems to be out of anything for a 9. So I'm hoping there's a lonely extra one sitting out there somewhere on an old unused chassis or sitting on a back shelf somewhere collecting dust over the years. Just name your price and I'll do my best. I just feel that it's important to keep these old girls running. So, much thanks to all and keep 'em running.

there is a good video on re waxing flybacks, can't recall where its posted but a search should show it up. A bad fly was brought back to life.

Wax has nothing to do with the primary winding.

thanks for the info on the rewaxing of flyback transformers. It was pretty interesting. But, yes, unfortunately that won't help with the open in the primary. But thanks anyway.

Hi, just thinking loud, but is the open winding layer wound or wave wound?

If it's layer wound, what about careful stripping of the bad winding, counting turns between taps and marking their location, then a good rewind with new magnet wire of the correct gauge #? It is not simple, but not impossible either, it just takes lots of time and patience, and if a replacement is unavailable, this may be the only solution. If you follow this route, don't forget to impregnate the winding with abundant anticorona lacquer, as the interlayer paper alone is not enough insulation.

ok i have a nos fly 284 and i know i have a rca 106359 that i havent found yet. i also have a ctc9 color set and i dont wont to sell my only spare flyback. just hang in there i will find the rca flyback. steve

I had several of those early roundies, but I sold them, for lack of interest at the time. I sold them dirt cheap. Forty years later I regret it. The same problem as the rest of the collectors. Lack of storage space. I probably had three of those chassis with good flybacks.

I want to say what I believe in that if there is a place where someone will find something for you that you are worried that you won't or can't find; it is here. This is an outstanding site with an even more outstanding group of people involved. Sometimes it takes a while as some people check in more than others.

On the flip, you are seeking probably one of the most sought after parts in the "roundie" rage world. RCA did a lot of revolutionary engineering in the early days of color television and made some really nice sets. However (as most of us know) their flybacks were never known for reliability. Not back when newer up to recent popularity. That's why suppliers like Moyer and private owners are running low, out, or hanging on to what they have.

I'm like Dieseljeep. I wish I could turn back time and walk into my dad's basement and be able to grab one of always a number of a variety of round color CRTs and other parts. I never really saved flybacks for whatever reason, but they would be on stacks of chassis that periodically got hauled to the dump on my dads orders of not turning the house into a junk pile.

A little older now and still messing with old electronics, I see what he meant at times. That's why I periodically have run "must part out" ads in the classifieds section to little success.

IIRC RCA flys from CTC-7 thru CTC-16 are all electrically compatible, but not directly mechanically compatible....Essentially you can make them work, but you have to get creative in mounting it all.
