Scott 6T11 projection TV

Thanks to oldradio99 and wiscojim, I received a tip about a Scott projection set in miserable condition and some TV test equipment. I made arrangements for a visit and stopped by earlier today.

It turned out to be a little storefront / home that needs to be cleaned out in a few weeks for the new owner. I spent a few hours helping sort through stuff, offering my opinions on value and setting aside a few items for myself. They seemed genuinely surprised I offered as much money as I did for the lot. So both parties think they got a good deal

Here are some photos I took while poking around in the basement.


They had a matching pair of these Sentinel TV cabinets. Too bad they were empty and water damaged. At least I managed to salvage the big field coil speaker from one of them.


Sonora pink & white portable. It's a mess but kinda cute so I brought it home.

Now for the Scott. Not for the squeamish.

Apparently, it had been in great condition until a pipe starting leaking water right on top of it






Serial # 0028 on the Norelco box.

A look inside. I've removed the frosted glass screen.


Not a single screw holding anything down, but I think it's all there.


I sure hope the little 3NP4 is good.

Wow, great find! Too bad it's in such bad shape. But, if anybody can bring it back to life, you can!

I would say that compressor is for a refrigerator such as a grocery store case or small walk in. Colored bulbs were somewhat common in the 50's and 60's for mood lighting. The colors were very soft and subtle. Pink was commonly used in grocery stores to enhance the look of meats in display cases.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. If I could find a local woodworker, I'd love to have a new top built.

It's hard to read but I believe the bulb carton says they "flatter complexions".

I found a little box of knobs that turn out to be for the Scott Now I just need to find the matching channel and fine tuning knobs.

What a find Bob! It pays to help clean up =-)
You could fix that top with a sheet of birch to make it solid again and match up a different species/finish veneer like the front.

Unfortunately, it's worse than what these pictures show. One side of the cabinet is really bad too. Perhaps fabricating a new top from scratch and replacing the cabinet side is the way to go.

Looks like that was a fun place to dig around in. The Scott sure is interesting. Too bad about the water damage, but I'm sure you'll figure out a way to salvage most of it. Lucky how the pipe leaked slow enough that it never flooded the chassis.

I was really surprised to hear there were two of those same Sentinel consoles in that place. I brought home one of those exact sets earlier this fall, in rather nice condition, including a good 19AP4. Turns out it's a nice performing set, and the cabinet is real wood veneers, not a photo finish that was so common then. Sure would be fun to know the story behind why the owner ended up stashing those two empty cabinets down there.

That's easy to explain. The elderly owner managed to make it down to the basement and commented that they had planned on making some sort of display cabinet out of them.
