Interesting finds. The TRC-X23 may be a tube-type CB radio from the late 1960s or early 1970s; the TRC-24B is probably from the mid-1970s up to 1976. The D104 microphone is a classic, still very popular with some hams as well as CBers. The "Phantom" amplifier was built as an illegal CB amplifier, most likely, even though it could have been called a "ham radio" amplifier. (The lack of a band switch is the clue that it was not intended for true ham radio use. Note that my amplifier comments also apply to the "Marko" amplifier in the one picture, too.) The "Super Scanner" box is a controller for a specific CB antenna that could be switched to favor certain directions, if I remember right.

Absolutely. If they all test good there's a minimum of $120 or so in tubeage alone...possibly more.

I've never seen such a large amount of tubes in one box and didn't know CB radios came with tubes ( Realistic TRC x23) I did plug it in to test out the Astatic D-104 microphone but no go I couldn't get any power ( Tubes didn't light up). I'm afraid to test the Phantom, Don't know if it's safe to plug in or should I?

Also since it was made for 11 meters it could be reworked to run on 10 meters and with the proper licensing you could use it without any worries. I would you not use it on CB as it is illegal and the FCC is quite fond of dishing out very serious fines including taking away all your toys if caught using one on CB. Just get a General class Ham Ticket and mod it re-work on 10 meters and avoid any hassles. Since all of the other items except for jpeg 185 has been id'ed here goes: That little box is a switching device/antenna switch to control an antenna called the Super Scanner (Antenna Specialists circa 1968 thru 1980s)which consisted of 3 vertical dipoles and you could switch on one to act like a sort of beam or switch on all three at once and go omni-directional. When in a single position the gain in transmit/receive was claimed to be 8.75 dB and in omni mode it was claimed to be 5.75 dB gain. Most folks ran verticals during the CB heyday and many still do. Some run beam antenna which allow you to focus more in a specific direction and basically block or reduce the unwanted signals from the other direction. Beams can be vertically, horizontally or even circular in polarization and the reason depends on what the user is trying accomplish. The box might still be used as a switch box but the antenna with it is a fun thing to find if it still working condition. Hope that helps. Hermit Last edited by Hermit418; 01-28-2016 at 09:20 PM.
