Emerson 637 Finished!
Hey Guys, Just finished up my Emerson 637!
Originally released in '48, this one has a date stamp from '49 on the tuner. The CRT is very strong but the pic doesn't have the crispness of an 8T241. After the recap and burn in the original 6W4 actually burnt out while I was watching it, that was a first! Of course the only way to changes some of the tubes on this set is to pull the chassis. Then a little later the contrast and sync started to drop out- Sure enough, a dodgy micamold cap Something else interesting about this set, the entire front is a single piece of cast bakelite with texture around the controls and white paint applied around the CRT and in the emblems. The faceplate drops in flush and the entire assembly is inserted into the cabinet from behind. A real PITA for cleaning as you have to pull the chassis and remove about a dozen screws/brackets. I think it turned out a-okay! |

Cory, it looks great!!
I had no idea about the Bakelite, I just assumed it was wood in the front. Eric |

That is nice. It looks good on that stand. I have been looking for a stand like that for a while. Does anybody know where to find one?
