national tv-7 set controls
i was bored today so i decided to start working on a national nctv-7 set, (i think that is the model)..all of the controls are frozen on it
and i decided to pop one of the rear covers off,odd.. these controls do not use a wiper against a resistive pad..but a ring that touches from a fiber wiper.and then the metal ring gently touches the resistive layer behind it ..looks like i will have to remove and clean old grease out of all of them..anyone else seen this? i have never seen anything like it!! here is a pic below.. also.. is anyone getting drnk this new-years eve..? ![]() terry Last edited by wiseguy; 12-31-2002 at 04:02 PM. |

Terry,
I've seen these quite often in radio chassis. When you clean them be very careful with the resistive element, you can remove it very easily. I learned this the hard way. Usually it is just the friction pad stuck to the metal band, once it's free I just put a tiny amount of light grease on the band. Chuck |

national set controls
i just repaired 4 of them, the shaft is seized,i had to heat the threaded area and carefully twist and then i cleaned the old grease out of the shafts and holes, then i have been putting type of grease simular.. (from sony for metal parts,it's yellow).
they seem to test fine now, moving freely..i have 2 more to do.. i can see what you say about the wiper, these are interesting controls..i wonder if they get scratchy.. ![]() thanks terry |

New Years
Hi terry, that is one nice looking chassis!
I have a bottle of Margarita mix, a bag of ice and the 50 year old Osterizer blender ready to go I won't get too drunk though, it hurts too much at my age (40+) Eric |

national nc-tv7
here is the chassis stuffed back into the cabinet just to see what it will look like after the cabinet is refinished ,i dont have correct knobs or a back for it yet,not much as far as paper caps in this chassis,it works very well,i covered the cabinet with old english just to see kinda what it will look like once it is done, the real challenging thing in this set was the frozen controls, and another thing is that the sams data does not match this set,(kinda sort of).
anyone have any info on these sets let me know,i think it will be a awsume looking set once cabinet is done..hopefully i will find correct knobs for it..( hint .. hint anyone..) terry |

Knobs
Seems like everyone with a National needs the knobs.
Larry Bordonaro made some absolutely beautiful repros for my Hallicrafters but I think the Nationals have inserts so I don't know if he can do them. His Site is here if you want to ask: http://www.antiqueradioknobs.com/ |

Picture
Terry, maybe this will be of help? I scanned this picture from the cover of Harry Posters Price Guide.
It shows the knobs in fairly good detail. |

National TV, Lettering
Send Mike at Rock Sea Enterprises a scan of the lettering and
let him know what you want. He made me a couple of sets for two RCA 621's, just perfect, right down to the RCA Victor logo. Even the gold was a perfect match! Michael |
