Mystery set

Found a picture on eBay with an odd looking set in it.

I'm guessing the cabinet is a custom job, looks like the guts from a late 30's Zenith radio
like this one is mounted in the right side and an early 50's TV is in the left, or maybe the cabinet is original to the TV and the radio was added later?

I agree that it's a custom cabinet. And that the radio is a prewar Zenith. That TV might be a Radio Craftsmen. Not sure, but with all those knobs, it might be. And those came with a bare chassis.

Maybe someone hand built the chassis from a Hallicrafters kit. Also, I know the National Radio Institute had kits for students to build as part of their home school by mail programs. I have a whole NRI course from the late 40s. The info is GREAT! Back then they didnt just teach you to replace things, they tought you how and why each component is used after they tought you the whole electrical theory Ohms Law, I=V/R, protons, neutrons, electrons. Once was a time....

If anybody ever comes across any NRI hardware it can be very valueable. I sold a hand built oscilloscope for $600. Couldnt believe it. No, I'm not one of those pukes that misrepresent their product hoping some poor fool will think he is getting a "rare" museum piece or something. I have never sold anything on Ebay, yet. This guy offered me what I got out of the blue after hearing me talk about it on another forum. No way I could refuse but I have wondered what the thing was really worth if he jumped to offer $600.

Hey guys, remember this one?

I got the actual photo (dated Jan 1951) from the guy and scanned it a a high resolution.

I still can't see any identification on the TV but you can clearly see the Zenith logo on the radio.
The channel selector on the TV has a huge bezel!

Wouldn't it be cool if someone stumbled across this one at a yard sale or antique store someday.

I think the entire cabinet is homebrew. No clue about the TV, but the Zenith radio portion is similar to my 1940-ish 12-S-471 console. If I'm not mistaken, they sold that same chassis in three different cabinets -- tabletop, chairside, and console.
