Dreams of tubes, TVs and radios

Ever get a dream (while sleeping) where you find yourself finding either a large cache of oddball vacuum tubes, vintage strange radios or TV sets? A few days ago I was dreaming that I was in an abandoned vacuum tube electronics factory and found things like thousands of submini vacuum tubes, a dual tuner "AA5" tube radio (AM stereo?), and TV sets using submini tubes.

And you wake up and think "Dang, it was only a dream."...

I had a dream more recently that I was driving down my alley way and a old tech was cleaning his garage out had stacks of tvs and radios and audio stuff and parts piled around his trashcans! Lots of NOS tubes and transformers and early radio and audio stuff and the tvs that were stacked were 7" and 10" sets in variety of conditions. I was just dumb founded in my dream just shoving as much as i could in my jeep cherokee! Finally you wake up with such excitement only to realize it was a cruel dream!

Usually I'm giving a speech in front of a HUGE group of people, only to realise I'm buck-ass nekkid, or some hideous horrible monster is about to eat me...Or they're slammin' the doors shut on the cattle car that's taking me to this lovely vacation spot called Bergen-Belsen...If I ever found myself in a tube factory, I'd be barefoot, & the whole gawdam place would be full of broken glass...

I had a bitchin dream about a tv repair shop that had closed here recently. I walked inside and saw only BPC. However then I saw a strangel blanket covering the floor in the back of the shop. Pulling it revealed a door, which led down to a basement. In the basement were old color sets, Round and rectangular stacked from floor to celing. All were well preserved, and had a tag hanging from them claiming they were finished but were never picked up. I asked the owner of the store why this place was hidden. He told me he was hoping to nail the door shut so that no one would destroy them. I asked if I could have one to preserve.

He told me I could have them all for free as long as I do not throw them away or gut them



then I woke up......

This goes back a couple years (well maybe 30 years)... I was newly into TVs, age about 9. I had 2 sets that were given to me by two neighbors. One was a Magnavox 23" B&W consolette, the other was an RCA DeLuxe 21" B&W console early 50s. Both just worthless junk that was 15 or 20 years old. There were no "vintage" TVs then.

So about the dream: Not sure why I would even remember this after all this time, but I for some reason do. The RCA was the subject of the dream. In real life, it had the typical RCA horizontal oscillator problem, which I didnt' know what to do with. I had been over to a TV shop to bug the owner in the days before this dream. The subject of one of my discussions with the TV shop tech was "Can a B&W TV be made color?" That's how much I knew then, LOL...

So in this dream, I got home from school or some place, and the RCA B&W console was suddenly in my room, and my mother was tuning in a beautiful AND VERY VIVID color picture. I stood there watching as she turned the fine tuning or contrast ring on the Right side of the cabinet, and it was varying the vivid color picture. The dream was quick. That's all I remember. But how weird is it that I remember it???

I often have dreams where I am in a large flea market or a warehouse absolutely full of antique/vintage radios and tvs of all sizes, shapes and descriptions. I look at everything trying to decide which one to take home but every set I look at has some show-stopping defect and I never find that "perfect" set before waking up.

Probably the weirdest related dream I've had was I was visiting an RCA factory where they were still making new tube radios and yes it was 2006.

This is not really a dream but the thread got me to thinking about how as a kid my mind used to process B&W television images in color. I know this sounds SUPER crazy but its true. Basically no matter the type of set my mind would register the image as somehow having color. Some kind of Idiot Savant thing I guess.

To this day I could care less if a set is color or not. If they made a modern day "big screen" or whatever the latest trend is in B&W, I would buy it, if it was considerably cheaper.

There is an old thread on this same subject which grew to several pages. A recurring theme! I have had plenty of such dreams, but don't recall any lately. One that often comes back features a large outdoor junkpile which in the dream is located in front of the house I lived in as a baby. It is wooded and full of TV sets that have been sitting there for many years.
