Found a weird B/W projection piece
It's a B/W projection tube with a Bausch and Lomb TV projection lens. The guy had a whole setup with mirror and fresnel lens, tuner, etc., but all I took was the tube and high voltage chassis. I wasn't going to deal with it, but I thought somebody here might find it interesting.
I'll try to post some pictures if anyone's interested... Lee BTW I also passed on a couple Admiral early portables and a Hotpoint with a baby blue metal cabinet. They were pretty rough and dirty but if anyone wants them, they're free for the taking in Madison WI. There was also a metal cabinet larger B/W set. The lady needs to get rid of more stuff, including a large amount of old SAMS. I also picked up a whole mess of Radio-Electronics magazines from the 50's. If anyone knows of any articles they want, I've probably got them. |

radiolee,
That projection component sounds like the lens and 5TP4 projection CRT used by a few manufacturers of RPTV receivers in the late 40's. One was US Television. |

Lee,
It does sound like the parts from a US Televison set. If it it the HV chassis with 2 6Y6's and 3 1B3's I would be interested in it as a spare for my set. Chuck

Neat. Thanks!
The other chassis parts are there as well, I just didn't grab them. They're not going anywhere if someone needs another project (don't we all?). Lee |

Lee, any major burns on that CRT? |

Guess I wouldn't know what to look for....
I haven't really looked at the CRT yet. Will look closely tomorrow. Cheers! Lee |

Cory-
Looked at the CRT. It's a round tube but you can see a shadow (for lack of a better word) of the rectangular picture. Screen is white, shadow is a light brown. Normal or burned up?? Lee |

That is indicative of a 5TP4 with a lot of hours on it. The light output will be quite reduced. Probably by 50%.

Looks like this one's headed for the dumpster....

Lee,
Just because the tube is well used is not a good reason to throw it away. Keeoing it with the rest of that hardware will make the total package more valuable to whomever might acquire it from you in the future. Those 5TP4's are very hard to find. |

Lee,
I agree with Rob, I have a couple of them that have light burns and the tube still checks great emission. If you are going to send it to a dumpster, send it over here to mine Chuck

I'll third that, at this late date nothing should go in the dumpster.
Some far off future restorer might need that tube to rebuild. |

To Dumpster or not to Dumpster
Well, you know guys, it's an eternal question what to store and what to dump...
Maybe I'll try putting it on eDumpster first. Open to any and all trades: tubes, amps, chocolate bars, food stamps.... Lee |
