I am surprised that nobody has posted the link to this set. If it were closer I would bid on it. Seems that there are a lot of sets coming out of the New England states recently. It also has a plug in remote!!!!

That looks similar to a General-Electric model I once saw. It had a HUGE oval speaker mounted on the bottom baffle.

Yeah, I think I have the model you're thinking of. It was made in 1960 by General Electric. That oval speaker is a 9x21. Yes, 9x21. The only set I know of that has a 21" screen and a 21" speaker.

Hotpoint has been part of GE for a long time. Found one reference on the web to back that up, stating that it was GE subsidiary in the 1930's.

Yeah, they go way back, 1920s, maybe before. I have a Hotpoint waffle iron that I still use, it has to be from the 20s anyway and they state clearly that it is a GE product. I've got a number of sales flyers for different late 50s Hotpoint TV's, but so far no TV to go with them!

James J Nance was the president of Hotpoint before he took over Packard around 1953. When he did so, GE purchased a big block of Packard stock as a vote of confidence in him. This backs up the case for GE being the parent ownership of Hotpoint.

While at Hotpoint, Nance introduced the "Pushbutton Kitchen" and not so coincidentally also introduced pushbutton gear selection on the Packards too......in advance of the competition (if memory serves)

Yeah, & Nance was the fella who finished off Packard, altho I don't think there was much of anything ANYBODY could have done to have saved 'em. Nance certainly tried hard, & spent tons of money, but it was ultimately all for nought. Too bad... it would have been nice to see what a Packard answer to a '75 Seville or an Escalade or Eldorado would have been....-Sandy G.
