Just about time to jump back into the Avante

It's been awhile since I've been on here or inside the Avante to fix the jailbars, but it's time to finish what I started.

In the meantime, I thought you might like to see the addition I just purchased to top her off. I never knew they existed, but they're a perfect fit.

Also, I might be able to get my hands on a new yoke for her, but was wondering if it's worth the money. Seems the jailbars could be coming from it, so it might be worth it. On the other hand, I don't know what's involved in replacing the yoke. There are lots of magnets and such on the neck and I'm sure everything will be completely out of whack. How hard is it to get everything back on the neck and aligned again?

I also have been given a Philco 50 T1443 set. Gonna be my first time working on a tube set. I'll eventually get around to posting this in the B&W area.

Swapping the yoke will involve redoing most or all of the following adjustments: purity, static convergence, dynamic convergence, centering, vertical height/linearity, HV, and focus.

Not exactly a cake walk (especially if you're not familiar with the first three), but once one reaches the level of familiarity I have with those adjustments you can get it right in a couple of hours give or take.

You may be able to get most of those right easier by marking the exact positions of everything before teardown.

Sweet antenna, saw at least one before. I ought to keep a look out for one for my Chromacolor console. Same guts as yours IIRC except for the Space Command setup.

Dig the funky antenna. Did you post about that anywhere?

I've done all those things to this set already, so I'm familiar with the process. Just the thought of removing all those pieces and putting them back would be a first for me.

This is the first public post for the antenna. I need to post one of it on top of the set.

Other than opening the antenna, is there any way of figuring out which of the leads is VHF and which is UHF? One is brown and the other is translucent. Is the loop connected in any way to the rods? If not, would the continuity setting on a DMM work? Haven't been able to find any real info on this antenna.

What about a continuity test? Though a lot of those old antennas have switches that switch those connections around.
