Just thought I'd say 'Hi' and introduce myself. My name is Cory. Some of you might consider me to be a pretty young guy when it comes to vintage TV (I'm 21) but I've been collecting and restoring for a few years and really get a kick out of seeing these sets brought back to life. Isn't that what it's all about?

I have a page setup with some of my sets here: http://www.eldocountry.com/television.html
(slow load time, I know..)

Anyway, I've been drooling over the 'show us your picts' threads and I'm looking forward to hearing the stories and seeing what everyone is working on. You guys have some great TVs!

Cory

Welcome!

Hi Cory,

I just saw your second post first and welcomed you aboard there thinking I'd somehow missed your first post. By golly here it is. Welcome again!

You are young and for that many of us will envy you for it. You will get to enjoy this great hobby of collecting vintage TV's for much longer than most of us will. I only 'discovered' this hobby about 7 years ago despite a lifelong interest in TV technology. I just never, ever ran across any vintage TV sets in my travels, so the idea never popped into my head until I saw a neat 10", 1948 bakelite Admiral consolette being repaired at the back of a TV repair shop one day about 1994 in Toronto. I started searching for one and found one the next year. Really rough, paid way too much for it and it needed a lot of parts including a knob set, a new cabinet, and a 10BP4. Well in tracking down those items I discovered the 'network' and have been building and restoring a private collection ever since.

Yes some of the vintage sets which have had pictures posted by our members here are pretty awesome. I hope you will become a regular contributor.

Rob

Welcome

Hi Cory,
Just visited your site. What a great collection and nicely displayed. When I was your age they still had plenty of neighborhood TV repair shops and used TV stores here in Los Angeles. Sets from the 40's and early 50's stacked to the rafters for $5.00 and $10.00. It was easy to collect then. You have a bigger challenge now. Tube sets, especially the early ones, are getting scarce and the prices keep going up. Be selective and enjoy. The fun is not just in possessing but also in searching for and discovering these electronic treasures. Good hunting.

Consoles

Hi Cory,
great collection of sets!

I like the big floor models too but don't have much room for them.

The Setchell with the lift up lid is way cool! I saw one on eBay once but no way to get it here.

I have a Farnsworth era Capehart (1948) not sure when ITT took over, 1950 or so?? Nicely built set!

Eric
