Zenith Black Dial - Just Got It
I picked up this Zenith console model 6S254. I got it at a flea market in New York City for $75.00.
It is missing 3 of the 4 original knobs. Someone put on a grill cloth. Year 1937. |

That peaked arch dial is the best looking of the prewar Zenith dials...in my opinion, and that cabinet has more style then many of the Zenith's.
Great buy at $75 ! Amazing you found it in N.Y.C for that price.....that's the land of the $25. hamburger ( I used to live in the area). Usually nice radios are found for low prices in a barn out in Montana ! Enjoy.... |

I've got a 39 and a 41.. sure would love to have that one to add to my collection... I've always liked that dial style a lot.

I got the radio at a weekly flea market that takes place every Sunday at about 77th street and Columbus Avenue on the upper west side of Manhattan. I live about 25 miles east of Manhattan in the suburbs and hadn't been to this flea market in about 7 years. The seller had a lot of furniture for sale and this was one of the pieces. The seller comes down often and told me he lives in Vermont. The flea market is in a large parking lot of a school and they even open the school building for some sellers - mainly jewelry.
I was parked about 3 blocks from the flea market and the seller even lent me his hand cart to bring the radio to the car and return it to him afterward. To trust someone in NYC with your property is a rare event. It was nice to see it can still happen. By the way, the radio works but does need some filter cap and other work. It's missing the 2 Zenith tube shields, 3 of the 4 original knobs, and what can I say about the grill cloth. I'll give the Zenith guy in Minneapolis a call tomorrow about the grill cloth, etc. |
