DuMont Manchu

As evidence that there are still nice TVs out there "in the wild" . . . .

Today I got email from a dude who bought a DuMont Manchu off craigslist in Hawaii, of all places.

I won't tell you how little he paid. It's embarrassing to see grown men cry.

Being in Hawaii the potential of finding a pair of buyers to drive the price up is low, shipping would be killer!

Does he want to restore it?

There was at least one other party interested in the set. On that craigslist, I noticed a plaintive ad asking the seller of the Manchu to please contact him.

This one is already at the new owner's house. I gave him the usual cautions about messing with TVs without experience. He asked whether I'd like to restore the chassis if he ships them over here.

As interesting as that would be, I don't have the time, and shouldn't be trusted with nice things, anyway. Perhaps someone else on the West coast would like to take on the job. Send me a PM if interested and I can forward his email address.
