Picked up a 1974 RCA XL-100

The other day i stopped by a local vintage mart, this TV had been there for a at least 6 months, when i first saw it, it has a $65 asking price. This time it was there and they had been doing construction and had boards, males drywall and crap piled on it, the price was down to $15 so i took pity on the set and took it home.

On first power up I found the tuner very stiff, all controls dirty and a very dim picture.

After making adjustments I was able to get a reasonable picture.

Matt

Excellent find!

I've been looking for an XL100 for about 10 months now. Nice score.

It's a 15" Inline bonded yoke tube. All the date codes I see are 2nd week 1974.
How does one adjust the convergence on this set?

Likely a CTC-62 or 72 Quite a bit alike--BOTH are a hot chassis, with a STRANGE power supply, that uses the "retrace" part of the Horiz. ckt, to power the tube fils and some B+ ckts. This set has a HUGE V-out heatsink and TO-3 outs too. SCR deflection, has Instant-on with PART of the horiz ckt used to power it when off.

You shouldnt have to. The yoke is glued on & the neck magnets
wont move easily. IIRC there is a locking ring. If it looks like the conv is off it is probably a slightly weak CRT. Unless smeone messed with the magnets........

I'm looking for a VHF tuner for one of these. The plastic shaft on mine has crumbled to pieces.

Is that the model that degausses when it's shut off, instead of when it's turned on.
It always struck me as strange.

I'll have to look to be sure. The set's out in my shop with a Zenith on top of it and a G.E and a Philco-Ford in front of it, so I'll have to do some shuffling around out there tomorrow.
