I'm thinkin' they used the amp & speaker out of the school record players, they were loud enuff to drown out the racket of 25 Squallin' 3rd graders...(grin)

20 Pounds..... Made back when anything you put a handle on was "portable".

Been playin' a little more w/this Bad Boi, it needs a couple new caps, as it has a little Hummm.. Another thing is "Thunderstorm/crackling" distortion, anybody got any ideers on that ?

The crackling sounds like silver-mica disease. If there are non-plastic/ceramic coated micas inside the IF cans they are likely going bad and causing what you describe.
