Perhaps it was wired for a pillow speaker? Open it up and see if it has a speaker inside and if it's been bypassed.

Does the rest of the set seem to work well?
If so, maybe the on-board tuner issue has been repaired. If the E-prom has been corrupted, they used to supply replacement chips, programed with average settings. Probably NLA.
You might have to get into the service menu and check the audio settings.

I don't remember the access code. You might need a genuine RCA remote.
Maybe Zeno or another tech can guide you.

On TV
Press & hold MENU
Press POWER
Press VOL UP you are now in service mode

with Ch up change the left ## to 76
the channel up / down control the left number
the vol up / down the right number.

left # is the parameter, right number is the actual adjustment.

After the first group of adjustments you will need to enter 77 to
go further. then after that group enter 78.
There are 3 groups & abt. 100 numbers write them all down.
Be shure to get them right.

If the eprom is the cause the audio will come back but the hoz
sync is always off. Its the first adjustment & usually around 18 IIRC.

BTW we had a few of these sets eating e-proms. Cured them by running
a wire from the tuner shield to the ground at the e-prom.

I have all the settings written down. What's next? Do i have to go through each of these or is there a certain peramiter for the audio?

Now you find a new e-prom. Replace it & enter the numbers you took.
Order it by complete chassis ##. Remember this may not be the
cause but its the only audio problem ive seen on them & I
worked on piles of them.

You probably have a CTC 177AW2 chassis which takes a 234397 eeprom. I have some eeproms left over from my repair days but not that number.
Here is a site where you can get them for less than $3 each. They typically run less than $5.
