Capehart 610P

I am to the point of powering up my Capehart 610P and it is somewhat working in that I have sound and horizontal but no vertical. The bad news is the primary of the vertical output transformer is open. Can anyone help me determine a replacement or does anyone have a parts chassis?
I am going to pull it and see if I can fix the break but thought I should start looking.
Thanks

Gregb

The original Capehart part number is 94223. Unfortunately, my Thordarson and Halldorson replacement guides do not list any subs.

The Merit sub for 94223 is A-2815 which is a universal type.

I saw that one but I am holding out for one that truly is NEW old stock, that one appears to be used.

All of the replacement listings I have seen on line list these transformer with a turns ratio and are not specific to a set. How does one determine which one you need? That information is not in the service manual and I have an open winding so cant measure anything?

I would get the Merit A-2815 universal type after finding what configuration works
you can try to find on that looks like the original but in the mean time get the set
up and running. Having a universal one on the bench can come in handy if your collection gets over run with TV's. I wish would have had one when the one in my Admiral pooped out 5 min after recapping.

I sent the guy an offer on the one on ebay and am waiting to hear back from him. I will give it a try and I hope it comes with some instruction on the correct way to connect it.

I happen to have a 610P chassis out so I fed the disconnected primary with 1.0VAC and read .0193VAC on the disconnected secondary. That works out to approximately a 50:1 ratio. The description for the A-2815 says it can be configured for 5:1 to 50:1 ratios. If there is no spec sheet with it, work out the 50:1 ratio terminals and connect it up that way.

Progress! I remembered today I had bought a box full of flybacks and misc transformers for TV repair a while back so dug it out and found a Stancor A-8140 which shows as having a 44:1 turns ratio, close to 50:1. I installed it and other than it doesn't fit real well it works perfectly with my 5" test CRT.
So I figured I got it licked now so installed the 10BP4 and gave it a try and can't seem to get much of a picture. With the brightness all the way up and fiddling with the ion trap I can just barely get a fuzzy image in a darkened room. All the voltages seem to be ok but no watchable picture. The test CRT worked perfectly so I thought maybe the 10BP4 was bad, I tested it and it sure isn't that great but should work. I happen to have an NOS 10BP4 so I gave it a try and it works no better so it has to be a setup or set problem. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks

Gregb

More Progress, got a somewhat good picture now. I figured it had to have something to do with the focus as the test crt worked fine. I had installed the focus coil backwards, turned it around and now have a nice bright clear picture other than a few more problems that is. It needs an alignment as the best picture and the best sound are not in the same place or even close. The other problem is what looks like maybe hum or something. The picture slithers like a snake from bottom to top in a slow repetitive manner. Anyone have any thoughts on that? I have installed all new electrolytics and tested each one before putting them in the cans to be sure they were good.
Thanks

A little update on the Capehart, I was able to get an NOS Triad vertical output transformer from Play Things of the Past that is 49:1 and the correct size so fits in properly. Its all installed and seems to be working as its supposed to but I still have this one last problem that I just can't seem to sort out. The horizontal is locked but the picture is doing the snake thing and as it is doing this the picture is distorting as well. The picture is good and clear and good sound, I did some alignment work, but this wavering thing is bugging me. Does anyone have an thoughts on this?
Thanks

Gregb
