Spotted a NOS 19VDZP22 on Craigslist
I spotted a brand new in original box zenith picture tube on craigslist a ways away from me and it got me thinking about it. It comes with a bunch of miscellaneous tv tubes and parts. I probably need another TV like I need a hole in my head but it's not every day I find something like this with zero hours. It's also a fair drive away and I don't have much fun money at the moment. I'm curious as to how many zeniths or even other brands, used this crt or what it could go into. Another old post here mentions a 19ec45 as one model but I'm guessing it's used in other chromacolor 2s. Maybe another member here would be interested in it to fix a set put aside due to a weak tube?

Could this have been part of a Heathkit kit?

Good to know, thanks! Does a black matrix mean a black shadow mask? I can't say that I have heard about it before, although I have heard of tinted glass crts for better contrast, are these the same thing?

Black matrix means there is black material in the space around the phosphor dots. It improves the contrast of the picture as well as the color purity.

The difference between the picture of a black matrix tube and a regular tube is night and day...It was basically as big a leap in picture quality as the Sony Trinitron, and in the later 70s-early 80s when Trinitrons adopted black matrix that was a big leap too.
Basically a well aligned/adjusted deltagun black matrix set is the closest thing to a 90s soild state TV picture you'll see from a tube TV.

Beware of the CRT ! It may be an un returned dud. You have to see it
& compare the numbers. Same goes for modules. It its a 30 KV jug it will probably fit in most Zeniths from !9EC through 19KC chassii. If its 25 KV it only goes in 4 tube hybrids. Most of these jugs had a big sub list on one side of the box. 73 Zeno ![]() LFOD ! |

Thanks for the heads up! I was just thinking about that as a possibility so if I do check it out I'll make sure to look at the guns for any discoloration and I'll probably bring my b&k 467 although I don't have a lot of experience with the thing. Will the listing on the box be obvious whether it's a 25 kv or 30 kv tube or are there numbers to decipher?

I saw this a while back and contacted the guy. He said the CRT was "Grade B, used"

O ok this changes things then, for some reason I had it in my head that it was new. I can pass on this then, not that a descent used tube isn't useful though. Thanks for letting me know.

Rebuilt tubes that re-used the glass envelope were often called grade B, used glass. All new tubes were grade A.

Nothing wrong with a rebuilt grade B tube. Theoretically it should be as good as a newly made tube. As long as it's wasn't used after the rebuild...

There may be more value in the tubes. I see 7 horz outs
Nothing wrong with the grade B jugs. We used to buy them 6 @ $50 each for the hybrids. When it got slow we rebuilt the sets & got $180 + each depending on features. Guarantied them 90 / 90/ 2 yrs crt. Same as most new sets. 73 Zeno ![]() LFOD ! |
