1982 RCA PGR100 Front Projection TV

Hey guys I picked up a RCA PGR100 front projection tv yesterday. I've been wanting one for a while to hook up my CED player to from the same era. I've been reading that they are a rebranded Hitachi. The picture is looking good so far. But needs work on the sound. The sound is intermediate static depending what's on the screen. You can bearly hear some sound behind the intermediate static with the volume turned all the way up. I'm going try get the sound working before I restore the whole set. Looking for a service manual. Itlooks to have a STK 437 stereo amplifier.

The stereo amp works just fine. I hooked my vhs player with rca jacks (the ced player only has coaxial) and picture and sound is beautiful. I'm guessing its something in the coaxial signal part.

CED has an NTSC out so first try something that has it like
an old Atari 2600 or VCR. That narrows down TV or CED.
If TV its from the audio take off & detector stage. Not a lot there.
If CED I cant help. Never trained or worked on one.
& Yes they did use Hitachi & also built there own too !

I had a VCR hooked to the RCA jacks and it worked beautifully. The ced player works great hooked up to my small flat screen. So it's definitely in the tv. Like the audio take off and director stage.

If you havnt run the VCR using the RF cable on ch3 or 4.
That way you are using all the audio circuits like the CED would.

The TV might be intermittent (and they are rebadged Hitachis), try the CED again.

Well......it's not the tv.....it's the player. I haven't used in a couple of months. Was using a "19 flatscreen to play my CED movies but decided to put it in storage until I could find a "from the same era tv" and settled on this RCA Front projection.

Could also be the specific disc you are playing going bad. The player makes physical contact with the disc, so it wears out eventually. Dust can also get into the disc and get in the way. The stylus in the player can also wear out and need to be replaced.

If you ever work on those two thick film modules on the heatsink that are unobtanium, put them backside down on an old clothes iron set to low heat - makes removing parts a breeze.
