Radio collector's dream vacation?
I saw this on the news this morning:
http://www.127sale.com/ A 450 mile-long yard sale!?! It runs from Kentucky to Alabama along Highway 127. Probably too late to catch it this year (unless you live along the route) but next year's dates are August 3-6. Surely some wonderful treasures to be found. I'd love to take my wife's VW Golf (50 mpg) but I'm afraid it's a bit too small for the task... maybe a Ryder truck instead?

Yeah, that road goes up from Chattanooga to Signal Mountain, & then winds its way to Kentucky. There is a stretch we used to go on in Kentucky when going to or from Louisville. It's mostly rural, pretty scenery, prolly a pretty good time.-Sandy G.

I agree Sandy, it does sound like a good time. My wife and I collect all kinds of antiques, and this would probably be just as much fun for her too.
Given the rich tradition and appreciation for fine furniture in the area, I'm almost certain my dream AM/SW console rests somewhere along that route. Buying table radios and/or test equipment on eBay is fine, but I'd like to make that inspection in person. Waiting at a bus station for the remains of your fragile, 60-year old + console radio to arrive just doesn't seem right. |
