the last estate sale find for 2005!

Estate sales in 2005 is by far the worst year yet for old tv finds. Only decent tube type color set I found this year was back in june, a '68 rca victor remote control console in a colonial cabinet. the same month I found a little 1969 ctc-22 portable. Ive hit almost all the estate sales every weekend in the chicago land area this year and have turned up hardly anything. Back in 03 and 04 I was finding a tube type color tv every 3 weeks!
Well, I got lucky today and happened to find a 1965 zenith space command 400 roundie in the black and gold chinese cabinet. This TV came out of a very wealty part of the north side of chicago. It was one of those "cabinet is too nice to throw away" tv sets. Even though the tv barely works, it is complete and almost mint condition. Will need to fix the color circuits and repair the convergence yoke (its cracked apart). Good news, it gets a decent picture with sound and the remote control works the way it should.
This was a very nice way to conclude "estate sale finds" in 2005

Suh-weet! I didn't know Zenith made a Chinese cabinet.

Is that a row of buttons under the tuner?

Great find, very unusual and classy cabinet there with the glass top, bet there isn't even any dust under it! And remote too! Love to see pics of it after you get her working good again.

Great find DRH! we found an RCA CTC-30 in a black lacquer cabinet in a very ritzy estate sale along with one of the French provincial white/gold Magnavoxes. These sets from the well to do are always the best as they were in pristine air-conditioned environments and they would pay for such pricey repairs as new CRT's, and they were conservative enough not to just junk the old unit in favor of a new one.

Great find, Doug!

I had been wondering about your estate sale finds. Before, you were bringing home sets like crazy! Glad you found this one to wrap up the year with!

I notice the bezel surround matches the CRT faceplate color - at least one model got it right!

What a piece of ART!!

One of the NICEST TVS I've seen. Also, rest of front very streamline and modern to go with cabinet, just gorgeous.

That belongs in a livingroom!!!

It's a good thing you found that in 2005... It would set the bar pretty damn high to top in 2006!

Incredible!

All-American set in a Chinese cabinet. Talk about irony! Think set designers in China are considering an Early-American plastic set?
