I can't tell-have you replaced or restuffed all of the paper and electrolytic caps on this chassis? If not, I would be afraid of powering up the horizontal output tube.
Second that. Also, make sure the H oscillator frequency is right before running the whole system. Possibly having it sputter because it's too far off (or just having it free-run at a low frequency) would be hard on the output and flyback.
