Rca k60 k80 chassis removal

Hello everyone

I am trying to figure out how to remove the chassis on a RCA K60 console radio, so it can be serviced. It all pretty much looks straight forward, until I look at the dial indicator. The backplate for the dial indicator is screwed to the inside of the cabinet and does not come out with the chassis. The dial pointer rides on the top of the dial backplate, operated by a cord that is part of the chassis. How can the chassis be removed without messing up the dial string? Anyone who ever removed a chassis from one of these radios (K60, K80, I believe K81) will know what I am talking about. Obviously the chassis must be able to be removed for service with a minimum of effort, but it is eluding me at this time.

Thanks in advance for any help.
