It should work fine on your blu ray player. I've seen first year HDMI inputs (2005) work fine on blu ray players. Good chance that TV caught some lighting from the cable box through the HDMI. Very common issue.
Check near the HDMI inputs - if there's a smallish IC being fed by the HDMI jacks, that's your HDMI port processor - probably bad. John
