Found a listing for a 50's vintage shortwave type radio locally and contacted the seller to setup a time to see it. He couldn't tell me much over the phone other than it is big and ugly. Yup that sounds like a 50's vintage table radio. Met with the owner and purchased the radio this morning. As promised it is big and ugly. Braun had some very forward design ideas and thought this readio was manufactured around 1955-56 the knobs and face look more like a mid 60's radio. The give away is the tuning eye. It uses a EM80 which is more indicitive of the mid 50's. Veneer is in nice shape other than top being sun faded. The cabinet is big and square with thick particle board between the veneer. The radio had worked on shortwave when I talked to the owner but he messed with it the night before and the dial string broke

Fortunately the FM has a separate tuning setup and he demonstrated the radio for me. I know don't turn it on. Well they used the radio pretty regularly to listen to shortwave. I turned the volume all the way down and there was the usual hum which I pointed out to the owner. He made concessions for these issues on the price and I got a good deal on a classic radio. Will need to be recapped and aligned. Probably looking at a month before I can get it looked at but I can't wait to hear it. Sorry no photos yet. Couldn't even find a decent photo online to share since these are not very common radios.
