Broken Philips 21KX102A Roundie

Hi everyone.

I'd really like to get my old Philips 21KX102A (K4 Chassis) TV working but it requires a line output transformer to make it go. Does anyone know where these sets were sold originally? I don't think they were ever sold in the USA but I could be wrong, although I think they may have been sold in Canada. It would be very useful to know where to start searching. They were only in the UK as experimental sets for universities and specialist applications etc., and they had a separate PAL decoder fitted.

I was very kindly provided with a lopty by a kind member of this forum (and then in return I took months to send him a TV from the UK, but that's another story...) but unfortunately it also had a shorted turn. I have tried wiring up a transformer from another TV to the cathode of the PY500s and the anode of the PL504s to check everything else and the lopty crackles and arcs into life, but all 4(!) of the proper K4 loptys I have are duds, and they all stress the PL504s when connected in the same manner. I now have a selection of different primarys and secondarys which can't be used together for one reason or another. I am going to try and get someone to help me cut off the overwind from the most recent lopty and perhaps try and use a standard 25KV secondary from a slightly later Philips G25K500 (G6 chassis). If it's the primary that's duff though then I'm not going to have much luck.

If anyone has any suggestions then I'd be very happy to try anything. (Well, almost anything.)

Thanks everyone.

Kind regards.

From Mike. (UK).
